Corn Dogs Blast Generals, 12-3

By Noah Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs put on an offensive master class against the Griffith Generals Tuesday, totaling 14 hits while only allowing three runs, in their first road game of the season.

It was the first game of the season for the Generals, who have made Griffith High School their new home.

Check out the box score from the game.

In the top of the first inning, the Corn Dogs wasted no time jumping on Generals starting pitcher Josh Bennema. A combination of timely hitting, with two outs already on the board, and plenty of defensive mishaps from the Generals, saw the Corn Dogs take a 3-0 lead.

Corn Dogs starting pitcher Eric Santaguida threw three scoreless innings and only allowed two earned runs off a home run late in the fourth.

The runs did not stop there for the Corn Dogs and neither did the errors for the Generals. Wild pitches, dropped balls and plenty more hits saw the Corn Dogs take a commanding 8-2 lead headed into the bottom of the fifth.

Once again, relief pitching for the Corn Dogs looked air-tight, with Austin Pizer and Chris Bachman finishing the last three innings with two combined strikeouts, one hit and no runs allowed.

The Corn Dogs saw eight runners reach base in the top of the seventh, four of those scoring off of singles by Hayden Matulich and Ranko Stevanovic.

Both teams decided to call the game after the seventh inning, as the Corn Dogs continued their streak of dominance in the 12-3 victory over the Generals.

With four hits, three RBIs and a stolen base, Shane Jones earned himself Macron Player of the Game honors.

The 4-0 Corn Dogs travel to Elkhart on Wednesday to take on the Elkhart County Miracle in what will be the first game for the Northern League’s newest team.
