Corn Dogs Are 10-2 After Win Over Southsiders

The Lake County Corn Dogs defeated the Southsiders 12-6 on Friday in a game where the team shined on both sides of the ball.

Owen Walkowiak started on the mound for the Corn Dogs and dominated from the very start. Walkowiak had at least two strikeouts in the first four innings and finished with 10 on the day.

With two runs scored, both being unearned, and only four hits and one walk allowed, Walkowiak proved himself as a Corn Dogs starter.

The runs came quick and early for the Corn Dogs, with four runs scratched across in the bottom of the first. John Connors started things off with a two RBI single, followed quickly by a Billy Jones two-RBI double.

The Corn Dogs set the tone from early on and did not look back for the rest of the game.

Throughout the third, fourth and fifth inning, the Corn Dogs scored six more runs through a combination of free passes, sacrifice flies and timely hits. Multiple Corn Dogs finished with fantastic lines, all contributing heavily to the 12 runs on the night.

Joey Merrick, Garrett Benko, and Jackson Peeler all saw relief action for the Corn Dogs, finishing off a phenomenal night and ultimately held off the Southsiders offense.

While the Southsiders pulled together six runs by the end of the night, the Corn Dogs sat in the driver’s seat for the entirety of the game, ultimately winning 12-6.

John Connor’s stood out above the rest, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a sacrifice fly, earning himself an Ironman Player of the Game.

The Corn Dogs head to Chicago on Sunday, June 16 for a matchup against the Chicago Clout.
