The Lake County Corn Dogs grabbed their first road win against the Elkhart County Miracle on Thursday, 3-0, after battling through a tight pitcher’s duel and coming up with just enough offense to come away with a victory.
Ryan Troxel, 2022 Northern League Pitcher of the Year, started on the mound for the Corn Dogs and pitched a gem through six innings. He allowed no runs, one hit and collected four strikeouts.
While Troxel completely shut down the Miracle offense, the Corn Dogs struggled to get things moving as well.
Coming off a three hit and two runs performance against the NWI Oilmen, the Corn Dogs offense was still waiting for a spark to capitalize on and take the lead. Through seven complete innings, the game remained scoreless.
Both teams threatened multiple times but struggled to string multiple opportunities together. The Corn Dogs found themselves with runners on first and second after two free passes and Tyler Schultz up to bat.
Schultz delivered in the clutch once again this season, rocketing a ball through the gap to left field, scoring Scott Hansen all the way from second and opening the scoring on the day.
A wild pitch and a ground ball hit by Adam Walters scored two more for the Corn Dogs, placing their lead at 3-0, and the pitching that delivered all day did not stop there. Adam Walters and Mark Tor finished the day by completing a shutout and grabbing the Corn Dog’s first win in Elkhart County this season.
Another road game is in store for the Corn Dogs on Friday, as the team heads back to Nappanee to take on the Miracle for the second game in a row.
