By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs defeated the Little Calumet Beavers 5-2 on Sunday in a gritty matchup where shutdown pitching created a “no room for error” atmosphere at Legacy Fields.

Check out the box score from the game and updated season stats.

Adam Walters received the start for the Corn Dogs, pitching five scoreless innings with three hits and two strikeouts. Walters utilized his placement and trusted his defense, putting up an Ironman Player of the Game performance.

While the Beavers started off the day with seven straight scoreless frames, the Corn Dogs offense also seemed to stall near the beginning of the game.

Matt Santana got the scoring going for the Corn Dogs in the bottom of the third, bolting home after a wild pitch. Billy Jones grabbed the second RBI of the day, ripping the ball for a base hit, scoring Tyler Schultz.

The Beavers answered back in a big way in the top of the eighth, with Jack Vogt crushing a ball over the left field fence, equalizing the ball game at two apiece.

With no plans of seeing the bottom of the ninth, the Corn Dogs scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to put them back in front 5-2.

Denham Kozy singled, scoring Luke Diekmann, and then scored on a wild pitch. Santana closed out the scoring with a single of his own seeing Billy Jones cross the plate. The Corn Dogs finished out the top of the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning and celebrated their 5-2 victory.

Once again, the Corn Dogs prove they are up to the challenge in crunch time with multiple players whose game elevates when the lights are the brightest.

The Corn Dogs, now sitting at 7-2, look ahead to Tuesday, June 11, when they remain at home and take on the New Lenox Pumas at 7 p.m. The Corn Dogs play again at home Friday versus the Southsiders at 7 p.m.
