By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs took on the Chicago Clout for the first time this season on Sunday, and came away with a 7-3 victory, proving their bats can be just as hot while on the road.

Check out the box score from the game and updated season stats.

Adam Walters started on the mound for the Corn Dogs, and while the strikeouts did not necessarily pile up for Corn Dogs pitchers, scoreless innings did. Walters finished the day with only two hits allowed, no runs and three strikeouts.

Fantastic base running aided the Corn Dogs in their victory, with three total stolen bases on the night and plenty of awareness during errors. Colin Horneman got the scoring going for the Corn Dogs in the top of the first, scoring on an error by the Clout’s catcher.

The runs continued to pile on for the Corn Dogs while they kept the Clout quiet. Billy Jones scored on another error and finished the day 2-for-4, maintaining his impressive .500 batting average.

Denham Kozy grabbed two home runs and totaling three RBIs on the night. One came in the top of the fifth and the other came in the top of the eight, cementing Kozy as the Ironman Player of the Game.

Horneman had a homerun of his own, finishing off the scoring for the night and sending the Corn Dogs into the bottom of the ninth with a 7-0 lead.

The Clout did grab three runs in the final frame of the game, but the Corn Dogs defense ultimately held their late game heroics off, winning the game 7-3 and advancing their win streak to five games.

The Corn Dogs look ahead to Tuesday, June 18 when they face off against the Windy City Baseball Club on the road at 5 p.m.
