By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs dropped a home game against the Lombard Orioles of the Chicago Suburban League 4-1 on Monday, seeing their bats fall silent while solid pitching continued.

Check out the box score from the game and the updated season stats.

While Eric Santaguida received the start, the Corn Dogs saw a staff day on the mound. Six total players pitched for the Corn Dogs, allowing just three earned runs, and limiting a talented Orioles roster.

The Corn Dogs struck first in the bottom of the first, with back to back hits from Tyler Schultz and Luke Diekmann scratching a run across. This run proved to be the only time the Corn Dogs crossed home plate.

Scoring three runs off of bases loaded hit-by-pitches, the Orioles only totaled one RBI base hit, coming in the top of the eighth.

The Corn Dogs threatened in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, leaving three runners stranded between the two innings.

Diekmann and Christian Holmes, in his return to Legacy Fields, stood out on offense for the Corn Dogs, keeping the Corn Dogs momentum going throughout the matchup.

Following the 4-1 loss, the Corn Dogs look to bounce back against the Beggars Bombers of the Crestwood Collegiate League on Tuesday, July 2 at Legacy Fields. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
