Corn Dogs Crush Thunder 21-2, Best Beavers 7-4

By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs defeated the WDS Thunder in dominant fashion on Sunday, posting a 21-2 victory and proving they are a force to be reckoned with no matter who they face.

They followed that victory up with one on the road, defeating the Little Calumet Beavers 7-4 on Monday. Joey Russo, who earned Ironman of the Game, went 2-for-5 with 5 RBIs, four of them coming on a grand slam.

In Sunday’s contest, Adam Walters received the start for the Corn Dogs, once again proving his reliability. Through 6.1 innings, Walters allowed just one run and two hits, keeping the Thunder offense virtually silent.

It appeared to be a slow day for the Corn Dogs offense, as they headed into the fourth with just one run off a Denham Kozy trip to home off a wild pitch. However, the flood gates opened unlike anything seen at legacy fields before.

The Corn Dogs spread 20 more runs across innings 4-8, seeing every bat reach first at least once and a plethora of Corn Dogs players have spectacular days at the plate.

The duo of Tyler Schultz and Tyler Stewart accounted for 10 of the 19 RBIs the Corn Dogs posted, with both having ridiculous lines and contributing heavily to the Corn Dogs’ success. They were named co-winners of Ironman of the Game.

Coming in with a 15-4 record, the Corn Dogs will play the Lombard Orioles Tuesday on the road.
