Corn Dogs Drop First Home Game of the Season to Bombers, Fall to 6-2

The Lake County Corn Dogs came up short to the Beggars Bombers 10-4 on Friday, with a six-run explosion in the top of the ninth that handed the ball club their first loss at Legacy Fields this season.

Kevin Corcoran received the start for the Corn Dogs, continuing to put up impressive strikeout numbers with five in three innings.

The Bombers jumped ahead 3-0 after a string of hits and some free passes, which would prove to be the difference maker on the night.

Tyler Schultz started the scoring for the Corn Dogs, with a sacrifice fly out to left field sending Aslyn Farinelli home. However, a three-run stint in the bottom of the sixth put the Corn Dogs exactly where they wanted to be.

Utilizing six walks and a hit by pitch, the Corn Dogs tied the ball game 4-4, seemingly finding their rhythm in their at bats and punishing Bombers pitchers for their lack of control.

Heading into the top of the ninth, the Corn Dogs looked to park the bus and allow their offense to come through once again. However, the Bombers spoiled the Corn Dogs festivities, putting up six runs on six free passes and two hits.

For the second game in a row, runners left on base plagued the Corn Dogs with 13 total runners stranded. The Corn Dogs also left the bases loaded multiple times with not many runs to show for it.

The Corn Dogs look to bounce back on Sunday, June 7 in their third matchup against the Little Calumet Beavers of the season at 4 p.m.
