The Lake County Corn Dogs defeated the Beggars Bombers of the Crestwood Collegiate League 10-2 on Tuesday, jumping ahead early on and shutting down anything resembling offensive production the Bombers threw their way.

While Aslyn Farinelli received the start for the Corn Dogs and threw three phenomenal scoreless innings, it was another staff day for the Corn Dogs. Seven arms saw action, allowing just four hits on the night and two earned runs.

Manager Justin Huisman feels this staff for the Corn Dogs is one of the most reliable yet.

“This team, I feel like whoever we throw out there, as long as we’ve got nine guys, we’ve got a quality shot to win a ball game,” Huisman said.

The game started with an eight-run bottom of the first for the Corn Dogs. With 14 at bats, six free passes and three hits, the Corn Dogs took hold of the reigns and did not let go.

Christian Holmes had a great day on offense, going 2 for 4 with a run and an rbi, enough to earn him the Ironman Player of the Game.

While the Bombers successfully shut down the Corn Dogs offense for five innings following the first and scored two of their own, the deficit proved to be too much, with the Corn Dogs grabbing the win 10-2.

Huisman believes this win was a perfect response to yesterday’s loss.

“It was good for us to come out, score eight runs in the first, and put yesterday behind us,” Huisman said. “You never want losses to become a mental thing, to snowball.”

The Corn Dogs look to head on the road on Friday, July 5 in a matchup against the New Lenox Pumas of the Chicago Suburban League.
