Corn Dogs Grab First Road Win, Hold Veterans Appreciation Night Thursday

By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs defeated The Southsiders 11-0 through seven innings on Wednesday, performing on both sides of the ball without ever taking their foot off the gas.

Check out the box score from the game and season statistics.

The scoring started early once again for the Corn Dogs, with a double off the bat of Denham Kozy in the second scoring Jorgie Vazquez. Two more doubles courtesy of Robert Tate Jr. and Colin Horneman piled on four more runs, giving the Corn Dogs an early 5-0 lead.

It was not only offense that got the job done for the Corn Dogs. Eric Santaguida delivered a golden start, pitching six innings with just two hits allowed, one walk and eight strikeouts. Garrett Benko eventually closed for Santaguida, throwing one inning with two strikeouts.

Taking advantage of errors and opportunities is something the Corn Dogs excel at this season, and it showed with Tate Jr. took off for home and scored off of an error committed by the Southsiders.

Heading into the sixth with a 6-0 lead, the Corn Dogs offense exploded once again. Five more runs crossed the plate following a string of singles by three bats. Jason Ballard capped off the scoring by breaking away for home on a passed ball.

The Corn Dogs finished business in seven innings with an 11-0 victory, advancing to 5-1 on the season in what was potentially their most complete game of the season. They look to Thursday, June 6 when the New Lenox Pumas come to Crown Point for Veterans Appreciation Night. First pitch at 7 p.m.
