By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs shutout the Windy City Baseball Club 6-0 in a resounding victory at Legacy Fields on Sunday, with eight total pitchers getting action for the Corn Dogs.

Check out the box score from the game and the team’s season stats.

Jake Thometz received the start for the Corn Dogs, pitching two scoreless innings, only giving up one hit with two strikeouts. Thometz handed off the reigns quickly, which was a theme for the game in what was a pitching staff day for the Corn Dogs.

The Corn Dogs jumped ahead to an early lead in the bottom of the second thanks to an Owen Winters walk and a Kevin Corcoran double, putting the Corn Dogs on the board first. Four more runs came across in the second and third, with wild pitches, errors and some timely hits playing a big role in the Corn Dogs victory.

Windy City pitchers stopped the Corn Dogs offense temporarily, posting three scoreless innings, but ultimately could not give their offense enough momentum to capitalize.

Across eight arms, the Corn Dogs staff threw a complete game shutout. All but one pitcher recorded a strikeout and the team finished with 14 total on the day with zero walks.

The Corn Dogs grabbed one more run in the bottom of the 7th off the bat of Corcoran, with Matt Santana crossing home in his first game of the season.

Corcoran finished off the day as the final pitcher for the Corn Dogs by striking out the side in the top of the ninth. With his 2-for-4 performance, 3 RBI, and brief stellar pitching performance, Corcoran earned himself an Ironman Player of the Game.

With the win, the Corn Dogs advance to 4-1 on the season and look ahead to Wednesday, June 5 when they travel to take on the Southsiders on the road at 5 p.m.
