The Lake County Corn Dogs took care of business against the Little Calumet Beavers on a cold and rainy night at Legacy Fields on Friday, posting a 14-8 victory following some late game insurance runs.

Check out the box score from the game.

Once again, the Corn Dogs struck first in the bottom of the opening frame, with some phenomenal base running from Christian Holmes. Holmes finished the day with multiple stolen bases.

Luka Zakman, Corn Dogs starter pitcher, put the pressure on the beavers early with his seemingly unhittable pitches. Zakman tallied four innings pitched along with six strikeouts on the day.

In the bottom of the second, the Corn Dogs offense put the pedal to the metal, totaling seven total runs off just two hits. Following four free passes and some timely swings, the Corn Dogs jumped in front 8-0.

While the Corn Dogs sat with an almost insurmountable cushion, the Beavers refused to give up. They slowly chipped away at the Corn Dog’s lead, scoring eight runs across five innings and putting themselves within two runs.

Needing some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, the offense found its rhythm once again. Six straight Corn Dog batters reached, tallying four runs and cementing a 14 to 8 victory.

Jason Ballard finished as the Ironman Player of the Game, hitting 2 for 3 with three runs, two RBIs and a walk. Ballard is off to an unbelievable start for the Corn Dogs.

The Corn Dogs look ahead to Saturday when the Thunder of the Crestwood Collegiate League travel to Legacy Fields. First pitch set for 4 p.m.
