Corn Dogs Roll Over Pumas, Raise Record to 8-2

The Lake County Corn Dogs got the bats swinging against the New Lenox Pumas on Tuesday, grabbing an 11-2 victory against a team they had a close game against earlier this season.

Eric Santaguida received the start for the Corn Dogs, maintaining his perfect ERA and striking out five batters in five innings. One run scored against Santaguida, but it was unearned.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, the flood gates opened for the Corn Dogs. A six-run bottom of the third began with a Christian Holmes two-run home run, only the third of the season for the Corn Dogs.

Some timely two out hitting came next, with two RBI singles by both Kevin Corcoran and Owen Winters, giving the Corn Dogs a 6-1 lead.

The scoring did not stop there, as a single by both Joey Russo and Billy Jones tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Corn Dogs scored their final three runs of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to five more hits.

Kevin Corcoran posted an Ironman Player of the game performance, finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI’s and two runs scored. Corcoran’s performance helped lift the Corn Dogs over the Pumas 11-2.

The Corn Dogs pitching staff also contributed heavily, allowing just two runs off the arms of Santaguida, Aslyn Farinelli and Jake Thometz, who also maintained his perfect ERA.

The Corn Dogs look ahead to Wednesday, June 12 for road game against the WDS Thunder at 5 p.m.

The Corn Dogs are back home on Friday, June 14 at Legacy Fields in Crown Point versus the Southsiders. Game time is 7 p.m.
