Corn Dogs Shut Down the Show, Grab Second Win of Home Stand

By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs pulled out their second straight 7-4 win on Friday, coming against The Show of the Crestwood Collegiate League in a game where defenses did their best to tighten up against red hot offenses.

Check out the box score from the game and the updated season stats.

Owen Walkowiak received his second start of the season and added to his already staggering collection of strikeouts, grabbing seven more in five innings while allowing just three hits.

The Corn Dogs posted some déjà vu from Thursday’s matchup, scoring all seven of their runs in just the first two innings. The major difference was a huge bottom of the second where they tallied six runs, all of which coming with two outs already on the board.

Robert Tate Jr. acted as the definition of consistency, going 4-for-5 with 2 runs and three stolen bases, enough to earn himself the Ironman Player of the Game.

Once again, every Corn Dog bat reached base at least once on the night, with just two players not grabbing a hit. Some other names that stood out included John Connors who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Luke Diekmann going 1-for-3 with a run, a walk and three more stolen bases.

After The Show responded to an explosive Corn Dogs offense with four runs of their own through the second and third inning, the pitcher’s duel began.

From the bottom of the third onwards, not a single run crossed for either team, leaving plenty of runners stranded. Adjustments made following the high scoring beginning of the game paid off, allowing the Corn Dogs to control the flow of the game for the rest of its duration and come away with the 7-4 victory.

Now sitting at 13-3, the Corn Dogs look ahead to game three of this weekend’s home stand against the Windy City Baseball Club at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. There will be no admission charged for this game.
