Corn Dogs Shut Out Southsiders, Improve to 16-4-1

By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs held The Southsiders scoreless in a 6-0 victory on Wednesday, relying on shutdown pitching from three separate arms to keep The Southsiders quiet all game long.

Check out the box score from the game and the updated season stats.

Luka Zakman started on the mound for the Corn Dogs, posting one of his best appearances of the season. Through five innings, Zakman allowed just 2 hits, no runs, and tacked on 7 strikeouts, enough to earn himself an Ironman Player of the Game.

The Southsiders pitching also limited the Corn Dogs offense, with all six runs of the game spread across just two innings.

The Corn Dogs scored four in the top of the fourth inning, taking advantage of some errors and passed balls. Robert Tate Jr. and Tyler Stewart each grabbed an RBI off of a double and single respectively.

The final two runs of the game came in the top of the fifth, with another trip to home on a passed ball and a Denham Kozy single.

Aslyn Farinelli and Luke Diekmann provided four total innings of relief following Zakman’s start. With 3 total hits allowed and a combined 7 strikeouts, the duo continued the momentum on defense for the rest of the game, finalizing the performance with a 6-0 victory.

The Corn Dogs look to continue their shutdown performances when they take on the WDS Thunder on Saturday, June 29 for the final game of their road trip at 5 p.m.
