By Noel Fary

The Lake County Corn Dogs defeated the WDS Thunder 3-2 on Saturday, making up for a slower offensive day with dominant pitching and remaining undefeated against the Thunder this season.

Check out the box score from the game and the updated season stats.

Owen Walkowiak started on the mound for the Corn Dogs, continuing his remarkable season. Walkowiak collected eight strikeouts, while giving up just one hit and one run in seven innings, putting his season total at an astounding 28 strikeouts.

Walkowaik’s campaign earned himself a well-deserved Ironman Player of the Game.

The Thunder grabbed the first run of the day, scoring off an RBI groundout, a fitting result for a game featuring top-notch pitching.

From the top of the fourth to the top of the sixth, the Corn Dogs grabbed three runs that ultimately put them over the top. A 2-RBI performance from Christian Holmes proved to be just enough to give the Corn Dogs a necessary 3-1 lead.

Following a quick response from the Thunder in the bottom of the sixth, the Corn Dogs parked the bus, not allowing a single run to cross the plate for the final three frames of the game.

After the 3-2 victory, the Corn Dogs head back to Legacy Fields following their road trip on Monday, July 1 for an evening game against the Lombard Orioles. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
