Corn Dogs Stomp Panthers 19-7, Playoff Rematch Tonight in Crown Point

The Lake County Corn Dogs responded to the Indiana Panthers in a big way with a 19-7 victory on Tuesday in Game 2 of the Northern League playoff semi-finals, after falling to the Panthers in game 1 at home.

Facing elimination, the Corn Dogs completely turned it around, grabbing 20 hits and allowing no errors, both major improvements from game 1.

Ryan Troxel, All-Northern League pitcher, started on the bump for the Corn Dogs, allowing one run early, but tightened up as the game went on, allowing no walks and two strikeouts in another outstanding performance. The offense immediately came out swinging and backed up his performance.

The Corn Dogs scored at least one run in each of the first five innings, putting on their highest scoring performance of the year. Each starting batter tallied at least one hit by the halfway mark of the game, and mostly subbed out by then as well.

The majority of the damage came in the top of the fifth inning, when they Corn Dogs scored nine runs off eight hits and saw nine straight batters reach base. When the inning finished, the score read 16-1 and the Corn Dogs had made their mark.

Gavin Terry finished the day 2-3 with 3 runs, 1 walk and 4 RBIs, earning himself Macron Player of the Game from a list of more than worthy candidates.

Relief pitching kept the Panthers at bay for the entire game, working with a seemingly insurmountable cushion. The Corn Dogs took the lead early and never looked back.

Playoff Semi-Final Wednesday in Crown Point

With the series tied 1-1, Game 3 will be held tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. at Legacy Fields in Crown Point in a winner-take-all game to advance to the Northern League Championship Series.
