Dogfight is on: Corn Dogs vs. WarDogs Thursday, July 18

There are veterans waiting for their own service dog and a much anticipated baseball match-up between the Corn Dogs and the U.S. Military WarDogs will help make their dream come true.

The dogfight is set for July 18 in Bulldog City itself, Crown Point, Indiana, Legacy Fields, 851 Center Ross Rd. First pitch is 7 p.m. CDT. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with a beer garden and pre-game entertainment and games. The festivities will include various veterans groups, food vendors and silent auction.

WarDogs, Corn Dogs & Legionnaires United

The WarDogs are active U.S. military members who travel the country and play baseball in support of the Forever Never Forgotten nonprofit organization. Contributions to Forever Never Forgotten assist veterans who are dealing with issues such as PTSD and other post-service challenges. Donations also fund player travel, equipment and uniforms.

Kevin Dvorak, Commander of American Legion Post 20 in Crown Point, is bringing Legion posts around Northwest Indiana together to support the War Dogs’ philanthropic aims — while helping the Corn Dogs’ with its mission of “Building Community Through Baseball.”

Dvorak has sought out American Legion posts around Northwest Indiana for a combined effort to support Forever Never Forgotten programs. Local Legionnaires are intending donations toward service dogs for veterans.

“Whenever we have a chance to help our veterans and can use an exciting sports contest to get the job done, it will make for a night where everyone wins,” Dvorak said. “It’s hard to know which team to root for.”

Corn Dogs Majority Owner Ralph Flores announced that the Corn Dogs are pledging a portion of the game’s gate receipts to support the WarDogs’ cause.

“I believe we’re going to have a fun night of baseball and a competitive game,” Flores said. “The Corn Dogs are proud to play against the WarDogs — and we’re doing it for all the right reasons. This is going to be a really big night for our team.”
